Memory Lane
Blackburn Road, Ribchester
This is another postcard from my mother's collection. This house on Blackburn Road, just outside Ribchester, was a cafe called Ashworth's. The lawn at the back stretched down to the river Ribble and there was a covered wooden veranda (what we would now call decking) where people could sit and take tea. In the 1930's, on a Sunday, people from Ribchester used to put on their Sunday best and promenade down to the cafe to spend an afternoon by the river. I remember it as a cafe in the 1950's but by then it was called Critchley's. It is now a private house.
